It's time for us to Depart

Hey guys,
Welcome back!!!
I know that I left you guys with a post that made even me cry and for that I would like to say sorry. This blog is going to be a little different than the others. The reason for this is because this will be my last blog post for the semester.  I know right! I can't believe that the semester is already coming to a close. Let's try our best not to dwell on the negatives. Lets make this last blog count.

As the students count down the amount of days that we have left in school, so does the professors. Like us, they are eager to get out of the classroom and into the real world and as far away from homework, quizzes and exams as possible. Yep, I have finally accepted the facts that my professors have a life outside of the classroom.

https://s-media-cache-ak0.pinimg.com/736x/80/5d/e7/805de77cb5bc6d69ac234410c8bed7e6.jpg

Before we can move forward, we have to look back on everything that has happened throughout the semester. Being in this Marketing class has taught me a lot throughout the semester. I remember writing my very first blog post on what I thought was the meaning of Marketing. When I first thought of the term Marketing, the only thing I could associate it with was Wall Street. Now that I am leaving this class I can give you a true definition. "Wanting to communicate and exchange benefits to the consumers, companies use different marketing strategies to help satisfy their needs and wants." Rodger Kerin.

Another thing that I have taken from this class was the 7 P's of Marketing. Let me explain. When I first started this class, I was taught that there are 4 P's of marketing mixPRICE PLACE PRODUCT and PROMOTION.. It was while I was working on these blogs that I realized that there is so much  more to marketing.

http://www.professionalacademy.com/media/images/7Ps-Marketing1.jpg

You have PHYSICAL ENVIRONMENT, PROCESS and PEOPLE,

A third point that I would like to review after taking this course was the Hierarchy of Needs.

http://cdn-1.simplypsychology.org/maslow-needs.jpg

This was something that was brought up in previous business courses, but never really dwelled upon. Throughout this class I have had the opportunity to correlate these different steps with my life. Each and every step on this motivation chart has helped me throughout my college career already. I have found that being able to have great self esteem will help you in the long run, especially when it comes to reaching self-actualization.

At the end of the day one thing that I know for certain is that when it comes to marketing, it starts and ends with consumers. It's all about doing your best as a company to satisfy their wants and needs. I was able to attempt this through  Practice Marketing and the team in which I worked.  While working in the team I found that there might be cases where some customers like your product, while others don't.When this happens, we had to try our best to create a product that will satisfy the need of ALL our customers.

For the last couple of days in the semester our professor brought in guest speakers (extra credit!!)  Before they spoke I was nervous about what the future holds and trying to figure things out.
https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjZm-VEhDtFWAdRb8lMEgKFbiPZY8_CvalXhmCdkANl4WfIc-Y9jd5dFmkQQllpZd_FhR2nXWSN3OJHgOuu3Uw3JuSTzdzFJu5J2Vy4xCc4cjefY_WXvPivuIQqlnPEzaMZoR9F1pwWrqEZ/s1600/tension-clipart-nervous-woman-cartoon.jpg

However, one thing that I took away from both speakers was that I don't have to have my entire life figured out right now, after all I am just a junior in college.
From this class, I have taken away some marketing knowledge especially when it comes to going into the professional worldThis summer I got accepted to Florida State Undergrad Law Program and I am very excited to attend. This program will help me when it comes to determining whether or not law is something that I would like to do in the future.
Marketing helped in this process because it showed me different ways in which I can market myself; by making my resume sound more appealing to different jobs etc.

Though I kind of know what I want to do with my life, it was good to hear people who have been through this say that its ok not to know.

Finally I can breathe!

Even though this is the last post I am still leaving you with another must see. Maybe I'll see you guys at the theater?

Have a GREAT SUMME

Are you FAST or FURIOUS?

Hey everyone!!!

First before we get started, I just wanted to say HAPPY 21st BIRTHDAY to myself. Yep, you all heard it here first,I am finally 21.  I am now allowed to live! (sarcasm). Today is just like any other day, hence the reason I am here doing this blog post lol. So since none of you out there care about that, lets get started.

Did anyone see the new Fast and Furious Movie?!!! It was really good and I have already watched it 3 times. I know its a little obsessive, but what the heck.
The question that I have been asked, multiple times I might add, is "Why do you watch these movies?" How do I respond to people, "Um..have you seen the men who are in these movies? Oh and the movies are good too, but have you seen the actors? CALIENTE!!!

Since I'm on the topic of hot actors, one that we can focus on today would be Paul Walker. If you guys haven't already heard, Paul Walker past away during the filming of this movie and at the end of the movie there is a tribute to him (spoiler alert!).
 Check out this video.
R.I.P. to Paul Walker. You are and will forever be missed.
When I watched this video I literally cried.
Now that I gave you guys something to cry about lets make you smile a little. Check out this video. Another must watch.
 I love these two!!

Okay, so in today's blog I will be talking about movies. Not only that, but the ways in which movies play on the emotions of the viewers and create a bond between the actors and those who watch it. Whether its commercials, or movies in general, producers and managers have to think about their Target Markets.
Target Market is defined as:

We can see this evident in the two movie trailers that can be located at the top .This can also be demonstrated within a company was when they used celebrities to promote their products.
Want an example? Check out Macy's commercial.

In this commercial, we see Macy as a company that caters to the needs of multiple consumers. One factor that makes Macy the company it is today, is that it is a company that is nationwide. With reasonable rates, and awesome customer service (Yes I know their customer service is awesome, I am after all a valued customer) Macy is the place to be!
**Sorry that this weeks blog isn't as exciting as it normally is, but I promise the next one will be great!**

Before I leave, please check out the trailer for this new movie that's coming out this Friday!

Until Next Time my Fellow Marketers.

Hey, Can You Satisfy My Needs?

Hey everyone,
Welcome back!!
                                                                                                  http://renjiveda.files.wordpress.com/2011/07/supply_chain_diagram.jpg
In this blog I will be talking about Supply Chains Management and Marketing Strategy. Before I show examples of different companies and their responsive supply chains, I would like to define the terms.

According to Kerin Supply Chain refers to, "The Various firms involved in performing the activities required to create and deliver a product or service to consumers or industrial users."

Ok. This video breaks it down for you.

Kerin went on to talk about Marketing Strategies. Marketing Strategy is the "means by which a marketing goal is to be achieved, usually characterized by a specified target market and a marketing program to reach it."

Did you know that there are really 7  P's of the Marketing Mix?
Check out this video.

When the two are placed together, there are 3 steps that supply chains follows based on market strategy:

1. Understand the Customer

http://www.activationjourney.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/12/customer-understanding.jpg
This means that companies should know the needs of their customers, this includes the desire for a low price or convenience of purchase.

2. Understanding the Supply Chain
http://www.sgs.com/en/Our-Company/News-and-Media-Center/News-and-Press-Releases/2014/12/~/media/Global/Images/Structural%20Website%20Images/News%20Images/2014/235x235supplychainmanage.ashx?as=1&w=232

Now, what is this designed to do?
The answer to this question is having companies be intuned with the requirements of its customers in order to deliver the best products or services at the most reasonable rate.

3. Harmonize the supply chain with the marketing strategy
http://marketingplanbook.files.wordpress.com/2010/02/scm-components.jpg

For the third and final step, companies should think about whether or not they are capable to doing well. Not only that, but they must think about the needs of the customers.

Connections? Lets take a look at two companies: Dell and Walmart

Dell
Target Market for Dell? Customers who wants the latest, top of the line computers. They are willing to wait to have their computers customized and pay whatever price necessary to get this done. Now I know that Dell computers may not be as popular as Apple computers, but they were once in high demand.

http://g-ecx.images-amazon.com/images/G/01/electronics/dell/cnet_inspiron13z_gallery-01.jpg

Walmart

The Marketing Strategy of Walmart is to be reliable, lower-price retailer for a large variety of products. This allows the company to be efficient when it comes to customer satisfaction.

It's Just a Whole Lotta APPLES!!!

Hey everyone

Welcome back!

In today's blog we will be discussing APPLES or better yet APPLE (people may start getting hungry thinking it’s the fruit lol). NO guys the APPLE we will be talking about today is not the fruit, though I could use some right now myself, rather it’s about the Company who has a lot of new products on the market.

We will be talking about the new APPLE Watch that is scheduled to be release soon and the APPLE TV. It's just one big APPLE TAKE OVER!

The first thing I would like to talk about is the APPLE Watch. This watch is set to be released in April to the public. I thought it sounded interesting and went online to take a look.

I was going to say cheapest version, but we all know this ain't cheap. The one that costs the least is $549.00 . You heard me and if you didn't I'll say it again $549.00.They range from this price all the way to $12,000.00.You can check out the photos below.

http://www.apple.com/watch/?cid=wwa-us-kwg-watch-com

I personally cannot afford any of these watches and I am pretty sure there are a lot of people who are in the same boat as me.
I agreed with my Marketing Professor that, "If I am paying $12,000 for a gold watch, I want to be able to see the gold. They should have made the wristbands gold."

Now something else that APPLE now has on the market is the APPLE TV. The APPLE TV gives you access to millions of tv shows and movies by just plugging it in. Not just that, but anything on your iCloud or your iTunes account can now be connected to your television.
What exactly are you "plugging in"?

Before, if you had a HBO subscription, you would be able to connect your subscription to your APPLE device. Now what's so new about this is that APPLE is now making it possible to subscribe to HBO without the need of a cable or satellite contract.

Now as a way of connecting this to Marketing, we should look at ways in which the word about this new product is reaching the ears of the consumers. One way in which this is happening is through the different social medias, especially facebook. With everyone talking and sharing the information, they are doing the promotion of the product for APPLE. Maybe companies should look into facebook as a free promoter.
Check out this video I found about the new watch.

Before we go please check out Get Hard trailer. Coming to theaters Friday March 27, 2015.

Until Next Time My Fellow Marketers!

Grumpy Cat: Been grumpy since 2012

Hey everyone,

Welcome back!

Sorry I haven't been here for a while. I've been caught up with classes and everything. Not to fear I'm here!

In today's blog we will be discussing the one and only (drum roll please) GRUMPY CAT!

So you may have seen her around and some may think her face is hilarious. I thought so as well lol.
Anyway this little girl's real name is Tartar Sauce

http://i.huffpost.com/gen/2364914/images/o-GRUMPY-CAT-facebook.jpg

She was born with her face looking like that. This was the result of and underbite and feline dwarfism.  The reason I decided to talk about her today is not only because she is funny and I can't get enough, but rather because I am going to be comparing her to  marketing.
Talking to my friends, one of the questions that they had was "How can you write a blog about the Grumpy Cat and Marketing?" I looked at them as if they were crazy, but then proceed to break things down for them. I will give an overview of what I said to them.
Grumpy Cat made a name for herself, not only because of the look on her face, but also because of the dedication of all her fans.
She has things from mugs, magnets to even outfits.
Grumpy Cat - I had fun once MagnetsGrumpy Cat Mug

Grumpy Cat Leggings
I mean come on. Does a cat need this much stuff? I know what you're thinking, she's starting to sound Grumpy. Fitting isn't it? But Honestly there is no stopping this CAT!
When the question was brought up as to who Grumpy Cat customers were, we said it was mainly targeting women. One reason for this is because of the coffee that they sell, cappuccino. Most men do not enjoy drinking their coffee filled with sugar like women do and Cappuccino= drinking pure sugar.

Tartar Sauce can even say that she has "people." I can't even say that. She  has taken the different social medias by a storm. From Facebook, to Twitter. Don't believe me? I've attached the links below:
https://www.facebook.com/TheOfficialGrumpyCat             https://twitter.com/realgrumpycat
https://instagram.com/realgrumpycat/                     https://www.youtube.com/user/SevereAvoidance

Most humans aren't even as popular as he is.
I have provided you all with the link to her website below. On there you will also find replicas of the photos you've seen above and of her many different products. Let me know what you think.
http://www.grumpycats.com/

The thing that I like best about Grumpy Cat is some of the memes that I have seen. It's as if she knows how I feel about life sometimes or how I feel about people who live to annoy us!

All these photos and many more can be found on www.google.com/#q=grumpy+cat.

Before I head out to enjoy my spring break please check out this trailer for Insurgent.

Take of Your Clothes..I meant Nice to Meet You

Hey guys,

Welcome back!!

It was Valentine's Day when I last posted and wanted to know how it went! Call me a sucker, but I am all for the lovey dovey romance. Valentine's Day is one of my favorite days, aside from Christmas of course.

Talking about all this lovey dovey mushy things is a great segway into this week's post.

In today's episode, I will be talking about Subliminal messages in advertisements. So we all know what subliminal messages are.Right?
Well if you don't then I will tell you.

Subliminal messages is defined as, "below the threshold or surface of your conscious mind." This means that if you are not looking for it, trust and believe you won't find it.

Don't believe me, well check out this video.

Some of these messages doesn't just jump out at you like the Skittles one did. It takes a lot of time and effort.

Now commercials are not the only place you can find subliminal messages. One company we will be focusing on today is Disney. Yep you heard right. There are subliminal messages can be found all over Disney movies.
http://www.sharegif.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/05/1-03-Frozen-quotes.gif
Yes Anna! Sadly it's true. I had the same reaction when I found out myself.

Remember when you were a kid and you wanted to watch the Little Mermaid?
You thought you saw this:

https://yoy50.files.wordpress.com/2011/08/little-mermaid-penis.jpg

Look a little closer:

http://www.ultimatetop10s.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/06/The_Little_-Mermaid_Subliminal_Message_2.jpg
STOP! Deep breaths people. That was only the beginning.

Or even when you wanted to see Lion King your favorite movie of all times, but in reality this was what you were seeing:

http://www.ultimatetop10s.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/06/Lion_King_Subliminal_Message.jpg

Come on Disney! There are kids watching. Many of my childhood memories have now been ruin. I don't want to know what I would find if I sit down and looked through them all.

Though Disney is guilty of having these types of sexual messages in their movies, there are still some subliminal messages in advertisement that are not sexual at all. Or at least I think so.
Take for example Amazon.

amazon.com
Did you ever notice that the arrow under the word points from A to Z, showing consumers that they can rely on Amazon for all their needs.
Another example would be the FedEx company.

http://www1.vetmed.lsu.edu/LADDL/Images/item71049.jpg
I never noticed that between the E and the X is an arrow. One of my classmates pointed that out to us during one of our Marketing classes.

There is also one found in the Wendy's photo

http://famouslogos.net/images/wendys-logo-subliminal-message.jpg
Isn't that the sweetest thing. Though Wendy's head marketers are not taking credit. They claimed they did not plan for this. Planned or not this still rocks!

This brings me to the end of this week's post.

Before I go I want to leave you guys with the trailer for another must watch. I know I will...

Until Next Time my Fellow Marketers!

Rekindling that Old Flame: Wait What?

Hey guys,

Welcome back!!

Before we get started just wanted to say Happy Valentine's Day to all those who are going to be celebrating with someone special.

https://p.gr-assets.com/540x540/fit/hostedimages/1380428376/857158.gif

To those of you who are heartbroken and hate celebrating Valentine's Day, you are not alone!
https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhh-upnod0xAYMYE53_FRWtSPy2QSznZNcDqZICeu71H8IZcmhsIrS_Non1ZLB8SsZZNvb8indB-HK4WpDA26GLKOJSfiOBi9QD3LPmK8hbze4oFH5WAo43_rs-dc7Q5mzB-7bP7vqE85b4/s1600/Yoona+Heart.gif

So in today's society, there are many ways to get a date. One of the most common ways of doing this is through social media.

Remember that cute boy from high school with the great hair or even that beautiful girl from your freshman year in college who would smile and wave at you from across the cafeteria?

Thing is you lost contact with these individuals.
But fear not!

You just heard from your friend Jane/John that they are now SINGLE!!!!

This is it! This is your moment to shine!

Wait how did Jane/John found out this information?

Well to answer your question, it was through Social Media.

This is a great example of Word of Mouth. This is defined as "the most powerful and authentic information source for consumers because it typically involves friends viewed as trustworthy" (Kerin).

This means because you have so much faith in Jane/ John you will listen to them and make your move. At least I hope.
http://i.imgur.com/Usn8u.jpg

Facebook isn't the only place you can rekindle that flame. If Facebook isn't for you, there are different websites that are set in place for specific people.

There are websites like:
http://i.ytimg.com/vi/TjE322I4irw/maxresdefault.jpg

or even:

http://blogs.villagevoice.com/runninscared/eharmony-ipad-application.jpg

Websites like these have a specific Target Market.

Target Market is defined as, "One or more specific group of potential consumers towards which an organization directs its marketing program" (Kerin).

These companies, along with many others, know who they are targeting and made that their main priority.
Another service that is advertised through Facebook was done by VENUE. This is an 18+ club right here in Vermont. This Valentine's Day you would not believe who is going to be there?!!!

Now the question of What other companies do, you know those companies that offer things other than products?
When it comes these companies, they use Social Medias in order to advertise their products.

Companies such as Hallmark
 www.facebook.com

Or even Dove Chocolate

www.facebook.com
Well that's it for this weeks episode, but before I go:

Want to know what I'm doing for Valentine's Day? Going to see this movie with my darling!. Check out the Trailer below.

Until Next Time my fellow MARKETERS!!

Guess Who's Trending?: SUPER BOWL Edition

Hey guys, Welcome Back. Before we get started I wanted to share something with you. Whoever did this, I give you props lol. Check out this youtube video.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wSnx4V_RewE

So in today's episode, if the title didn't already give it away, I will be discussing who and what's trending and the first thing that I want to talk about is the SUPER BOWL!!!

To all my PATRIOTS fans out there...it was a fantastic win. To my SEAHAWKS fans...umm better luck next year?

I had the opportunity to watch the game, but for all the parts that I missed, want to know the first place I looked?
YOUTUBE of course!
If you missed it too, check out the game highlights below.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_embedded&v=gWfWIHwih-g

Now how I would connect this to marketing?

By looking at some of  the commercials that were shown during this event. Unlike previous years, the ones for this year were particularly sad.

Many fans were upset...I know because I was too.

I mean come on, you are watching the Superbowl and suddenly you saw:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dKUy-tfrIHY

This played with my emotions. I did a double take "like what the heck was that?"  It was later that I found out that the insurance company did this on purpose. They were trying to get consumers to be more aware of one of the issues that we face today.

Another one that played on my emotions was the Nissan commercial. I kid you not, I started to tear up. My friends look at me like "what the hell is wrong with you?"
See for yourself:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Bd1qCi5nSKw

You cried too right? Good thing this box of tissues was right next to me.

Now its only fair, since I let you guys relive those very emotional commercials, that I give you guys something funny lol. Check this out:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=I9ZTAA4cT7k
I really enjoyed this Doritos commercial lol

or even something sweet:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iq2Sm2XGv_s

I'm just Mclovin' It!!

These companies along with many more, spent millions of dollars on these commercials. The reason for this is to grasp the attention of those who view it.

The Commercials that played on your emotion? Those were brilliant.

I mean, look at it this way, millions of people are watching the superbowl, half of them are watching for the commercials. This is the best way, costly too, to get your company and name out there. In McDonald's case to get back what was once lost..Generation Y consumers with the promise of free things. YES! we love free, but who doesn't?

Before I leave you guys, did you love the halftime performance as much as I did?
Then check it out!!!

Oh Facebook, Facebook, wherefore art thou Ethics?

After endless searching on the internet for something to motivate me when I was down this weekend, I stumbled upon this video:
I thought if I was gonna give myself a "pick me up" I would share it with you guys.
WELCOME BACK!!!
In today's episode I will  be talking about how I view Ethical and Social Responsibility in Marketing and how it compares to the Ethical and Social Responsibility through Social Medias.

Code of Ethics ties in nicely with the Corporate culture. The Corporate Culture is said to be "a set of values, ideas, and attitudes that is learned and shared among the members of an organization" (Roger Kerin). This is also saying that culture is evident in the expectation for ethical behavior.

Want to know what others think?

Well there are those out there who think that Facebook has no form of Ethics (GASP). Facebook was said to be using their users data to conduct research without their permission (DOUBLE GASP).

What did some users do?

They complained!!! Oh you bet your asses they did.

And what did Facebook do?

As of January 2015 there have been new policies set in place. I can't tell you what these new policies are because I personally don't have anything on Facebook that I wouldn't share. But you can know the verdict in my next blog!

So if you don't want everyone to know about all your dirty little secrets
http://www.breatheheavy.com/exhale/index.php?/topic/624656-pretty-little-liars-the-official-thread-for-discussion-theories-and-clues/
don't post them on Facebook.

When it comes to Social Responsibility, Facebook manned up and try to make their users happy.

But before we get excited and begin to jump with joy, what the heck is Social Responsibility?

Social Responsibility as defined by Roger Kerin "means that organizations are a part of a larger society and are accountable to the society for their actions". There are three concepts of Social Responsibility and those are:

1. Profit Responsibility: to maximize the profit of companies owners and stakeholders
2. Stakeholder Responsibility: to focus on the obligations that a company has to those who will increase total achievements
3. Societal Responsibility: to focus on obligations that organizations have to maintain both the ecological environment and the general public.

And how does this relate to Facebook you ask?

Well, Facebook strive to uphold their societal responsibilities.

This means that they do their best to keep the general public

Before I leave you guys, another one of my obsessions!!!! The Originals. Enjoy

What's Marketing?

My name is Daviah Lawrence and I am a junior at Saint Michael's College in Colchester Vermont. I am currently taking the Marketing Course at Saint Mikes and I am very excited to learn what is marketing. This Blog is about my discovery of this thing called Marketing  and connecting it to something that I love; Social Medias.

http://digitalpopmarketing.com/social-media-marketing-made-simple-ten-ways/

Being a person whose entire life is embedded in the different social medias, I find that Marketing has played a major part in how these things are displayed.

When I first heard the term Marketing, I kid you not, my first thoughts were

http://www.viator.com/tours/New-York-City/New-York-City-Wall-Street-Insider-Tour

Yes you guessed right:  New York City and Wall Street. I know I did not have that much of an imagination, but its the truth. On my first day of Marketing class, I learned the true definition of Marketing.  It was defined as "the activity for creating, communicating, delivering and exchanging offerings, that benefits its customers, organization, its stakeholders and society at large" (Roger A. Kerin).  WOW that was a mouthful.
In simpler terms, Marketing is having an organization satisfy the wants and needs of its customer

http://shelfstock.blogspot.com/2014/03/what-is-marketing-simple-definition.html

When we take a step back and look at the makeup of Marketing we see it is consist of 4 P's:

http://www.dcmarketingpro.com/blog/bid/358470/Choose-the-Best-Marketing-Mix-in-3-Easy-Steps

These 4 P's are all apart of something that is known as the Marketing Mix. The elements that are mentioned above are known as the controllable factors. This means that those who are in charge of the Marketing department of a company, has total control over them.

However not every aspect of Marketing is controllable. When it comes to the Environmental Forces, Marketing departments have no control. Want to take a guess about who does? It's ok I'm gonna tell you anyway.....Its the CONSUMERS!!!

YES!!! We have the power because we know what we want and need. What I want right now is a little downtime scrolling down my facebook page. But before I can do that one question that plagues my mind is Where did Facebook come from?

The Facebook

Quick fun fact: Did you know that Facebook was invented by a college student like me?
https://www.google.com/search?q=shocked+face

When I first found out I was a bit shocked myself. This made me think, "There's still hope for me in  the world after all." When Zuckerberg first started he was able to gain 900 people to sign up in 4 days. Today there are millions of people using this social media. Do I even have to say more about his Marketing Skills?

The question is how does this connect to Marketing?
Today there is nothing you won’t find on Facebook, from socializing to advertising. I use Facebook as my way of catching up on the latest celebrity news or just connect with my family and friends. The possibilities of what I can find are endless. For example this morning I woke up to a Facebook request from one of my long lost friends from Middle School. Looking down my time line, there was also ADs from companies like Payless, Target and Macy's. Zuckerberg created a way for companies to share their promotions to their current and future consumers and for me to stay connected of course.

Before I go I would like to share my new obsession!!!! Jane the Virgin. It's a must watch.

Until next time my fellow Marketers
